During the night of 12 to 13 May Miss Universe was selected in the Cypriot town of Nicosia on the 49th occasion of the pageant. A live audience of 4,000 and 4,000,000 television viewers around the world watched as the charming and intelligent Indian Lara Dutta was selected as the most beautiful woman in the world.

Maurice Lacroix personally presented the newly-elected and radiant-looking Miss Uni-verse, Lara Dutta, with a diamond-studded Miros Integral.
